Yet another NBA star point guard has defected from the Swoosh, and the most recent player is Boston Celtics All-Star Rajon Rondo – arguably a development more surprising than any other recent footwear brand defection.
Signing with former Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett’s brand, the Anta Rondo 1 is something both a shoe no one saw coming and even in leaked images, a shoe that’s interesting to look at.
Note the silhouette on the tongue, a view of the player’s famed drives to the basket, often leading to an assist of some kind or even an extremely funky lay-up that leaves fans wondering how he scored in the first place.
The Rondo 1 seems to take inspiration from his older shoe models of choice, with a Nike Hyperfuse-like application in the upper that probably is an attempt to mimic the lightweight and breathable behavior of its inspired source. It appears that synthetic leather is making an appearance on the shoe also, across the toe and into the majority of the upper’s white shell.
There’s not yet any word on when the Rondo 1 will release or even if the Rondo 1 will release at all in the United States. For more updates, stay tuned to Sneaker Report.
