Inspired by his newest creation (the Air Flight Huarache), Air Jordan maestro Tinker Hatfield borrowed some of the Huarache technology as he created the Air Jordan VII for the 1991-92 season. He replaced the bulkier leather upper with a lighter, less-padded unit, cutting down on weight to keep Michael Jordan’s legs fresh over the grind of an 82 game season (plus playoffs).
To place more emphasis on securing Jordan’s foot within the shoe, a neoprene sockliner was added to keep the Bulls star’s foot locked in whether he was harassing an opponent on defense or driving to the hoop on offense.
The result of these advances was one of the finest years of Jordan’s career. Wearing the Air Jordan VIIs in 1991-92 he scored 40 or more points a staggering 15 times, then for good measure did it another seven times in the VIIs during the 1992-93 season.
While MJ is the gold standard, he isn’t the only one to have some great efforts in this innovative sneaker. These are the 10 Best Performances in the Nike Air Jordan VII.
