In terms of the number of releases, August 2013 won't be as impressive as July was. But some of the most hyped sneakers of the year are slated to hit the market this month, so there's plenty to look forward to. Much of August will be dominated by running shoes (including the adidas Springblade), but there are a couple of basketball and skateboarding models sprinkled throughout as well. No 10 - Asics GEL-Nimbus Lite

While the GEL-Nimbus 15 has been out since April, in August, Asics will introduce a "Lite" version of the popular stability shoe. While much of the performance specs on the GEL-Nimbus 15 Lite seem to be unchanged, the shoe will feature a glow-in-the-dark silhouette for runners who are looking to light up the road after hours.

Kevin Durant's latest signature sneaker will take on an intergalactic look this month, giving a performance heavy shoe some style to match. The Nike KD VI "Meteorology" features a predominantly black upper with red detailing for a pop of color. As for performance, the shoe features a two-piece Flywire upper for twice the support.

No. 7 - Vans OTW x Outlier Bedford

For its latest footwear collaboration, Vans OTW Collection teams up with craft apparel brand Outlier for a special edition of the Bedford, and the result is quite impressive. The Vans OTW x Outlier Bedford features a street-friendly design that’s right in line with traditional Outlier style, paired with tailored performance designed for shredding.

No. 6 - adidas Adios Boost

After unveiling the Adios Boost earlier this year, adidas has been mum on the subject as it prepares for the release of the high tech Springblade. However, as mentioned in our preview of the shoe back in April, the Adios Boost will be the latest adidas running shoe to adopt the responsive Boost midsole technology in hopes of making an already great shoe even better. Keep an eye out for this one folks.

No. 4 - Saucony Cortana 3

Given the success of the Cortana 2, Saucony didn't change much in the latest version the popular running shoe. As expected, the shoe features minimal tweaks, which include more ground-contact iBR+ (injection-blown rubber) than the previous model. Saucony has also added FlexFilm overlays to the forefoot for improved support, and a seamless construction that offers comfort both with or without socks.

August may be top-heavy on running shoe releases, but there's good news for basketball fans this month as well. The shoe of Blake Griffin, the Jordan Super.Fly 2 will combine Flight Plate technology with Dynamic Fit and Hyperfuse to offer the best sneaker to suit Griffin’s high flying game. It's designed to better handle lateral movements and directional changes.

No. 2 - Nike Free Flyknit

Nike has take two of its marquee running technologies in the Free outsole and Flyknit upper, and combined them to give runners the best of both worlds. The Free Flyknit is an extremely flexible shoe that fits like a sock for a completely natural ride. We saw an early release of the shoe last week, but the official release date is today, August 1.

Not everyone is sold on the adidas Sprinblade, but the arrival of the shoe could very well change the way running sneakers are viewed (and designed) forever. In case you've been in hibernation all summer, and have no idea what the Springblade is all about, here it is in a nutshell: the shoe replaces the standard foam midsole with a series of individually tuned blades that are designed to propel runners forward, while keeping them stable. Crazy, right?
