The city of Chicago, the NBA and adidas have one main thing in common right now: They can’t wait to have Derrick Rose return to the Bulls from injury. He teased us last week by joining his team for shoot-around and looks like he’s close to on-court shape. While he most likely wont return until after the all-star break, his presence will being felt with the release of the D Rose 3.5 later this month. Sneaker Report got a chance to talk with adidas Footwear Category Manager, Jack Gray about the shoes and learn more about the announcement.
The overall appeal and reception to the D Rose 3 was based on how comfortable they are to play in. For the 3.5, according to adidas, Derrick Rose stressed that the 3.5 be a bolder shoe than the D Rose 3.
“My main thing is always sharpening up my game and improving my body and with the D Rose 3.5 adidas took that same approach,” said Rose. “This shoe takes the best things from my last shoe and made them even better. I’m more comfortable and supported on the court and bringing some real serious style too.”
One of the new features players should notice performance wise is how comfortable the new feel is. adidas took its SPRINTWEB technology and placed it on the outside of the upper rather than the inside with the thought of securely locking in the foot and making the shoe more responsive to Derrick’s style of play. Another standout feature on the 3.5 is the continued use of the Rose signature shoe as a canvas to his life story. The synthetic leather upper features the spiral protruding from the D Rose logo on the ankle to represent how his on and off-court success continues to grow from the support of his family, who inspired the logo.
Each colorway of the D Rose 3.5 will feature special graphics, materials and colors that give details about Derrick’s life and style of play. The D Rose 3.5 launches at retailers worldwide on January 31 for $160 in away (black/white/red) and home (gray/black/red) colorways. The shoe will launch in six additional editions through April.
