adidas came out guns blazing at this year’s New York City Marathon Expo, as it unveiled some hotly anticipated running gear ahead of Sunday’s big five-borough race. While it was the Supernova Glide Boost that stole the show in the footwear category, adidas’ miCoach Smart Run Watch made quite a splash on its retail debut.

First announced in October, the miCoach Smart Run is a state-of-the-art touch-screen performance tracking device that surely has the potential to break the bank at its current $400 price point, however based on first glance (i.e. playing around with the watch for a few minutes at Day 1 of the expo), it could be well worth the money.

GPS mapping, strapless heart rate monitoring and Bluetooth connectivity are just the basic functions of the Smart Run watch. In addition to run logging via a built-in accelerometer, the unit provides runners with all of their favorite tunes with an integrated MP3 player. This means you can leave your music device at home next time you step out for a run. And since it has a wireless Bluetooth feature, you can say goodbye to headphones that get tangled and pop out of your ears every quarter mile.

If you happen to be in the New York City area this weekend, you can pick up the miCoach Smart Run at the marathon expo at the Javits Center as of yesterday. Everyone else can gear up at adidas starting today. A complete SR performance review of the watch will be posted shortly.
