With the launch of its new ClimaWARM+ footwear and apparel collection, adidas is on a mission to revolutionize how athletes perform in the cold.

Developed with insight from adidas athlete David Beckham, the ClimaWARM+ range uses hollow fibers that trap air to create insulation, allowing the fabric to keep the body warm and dry. This new innovative technology doesn’t just increase warmth, but also reduces the weight of the garments to optimize warmth-to-weight ratio.

The source of inspiration for the technology? Believe it or not, it comes from analyzing how polar bears retain their warmth in some of the most extreme weather conditions. And while ClimaWARM+ isn’t insulated with polar bear fur (thankfully), it uses the same concept of hollow fibers.

The adidas ClimaWARM+ collection features over a dozen initial pieces of footwear and apparel—for both men and women—designed to help athletes conquer the cold. As we await an official release date, flip through the gallery above to see what the collection is all about.
