How do you rebound from a torn ACL? Well if you’re Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, you rehab at an incredible rate, put up a 2,000-yard season, single-handedly carry your team to an unlikely playoff birth, and then start plotting to take down the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
After nearly breaking Eric Dickerson’s all-time rushing record this season, AP told Yahoo he wants to pursue his dream of earning Olympic Gold. Peterson, who ran the 100 meters with a time of 10.33 in high school, is undoubtedly fast. But to even come close to topping Bolt, he’d have to run it in under 10 seconds (10.18 seconds is the average qualifying time for an Olympic spot)—a difficult task to say the least. Then again, we have seen No. 28 run like a man possessed. In a Week 15 matchup against the St. Louis Rams, Peterson was clocked in at 10.6 seconds on a touchdown run that went 82 yards while making lateral juke moves and running around defenders (not to mention he was wearing full pads).
We’re not saying AP could ever beat Usain “Lightning” Bolt in a 100-meter sprint, but hey, you never know what can happen in the next 3 years leading up to Rio. And hopefully Peterson will have a shoe deal by then as well.
