Altra Instinct 2

The world’s "first cushioned zero drop shoe"—the Altra Instinct—is slated to get an upgrade in nearly every department in 2014, including a boost in style, fit, and overall performance.

The Instinct 2 keeps the same Zero Drop foundation that’s garnered high acclaim in just a short period of time, but it does take on some much needed aesthetical improvements. It features a foot-shaped toe box to improve form, along with HeelClaw technology for more heel support. Altra has also added a stiffer heel counter for added stability and a snug fit.

At 8.9 ounces, the weight of the Instinct 2 remains virtually the same as its predecessor, though it does see an increased stack height at 25mm (a 4mm increase).

The shoe is versatile enough to be used for running and cross training. According to Altra, it’s designed to reduce the risk of injuries including shin splints, knee, pain, forefoot pain, and bunions.

Suggested retail price for the Instinct 2 is set at $105. It will be available in early 2014.
