Asics Gel Excel33 3 1

In early 2014, Asics will debut the third installment of its lightweight Gel-Excel33 series, and if the first two models were any indication, the latest version should prove to be a solid workhorse on the road.

An update to Asics’ 33 collection, the Gel-Excel33 3 (along with shoes like the Gel-Super J33, and Gel-Lyte 33 3), is designed as an all-purpose trainer. The shoe features a lightweight build at just under 9 ounces, making it nearly an ounce lighter than the current edition.

At first glance, it may seem as though the shoe’s design is identical to the Excel33 2, however Asics has in fact made some subtle changes to improve the overall appearance, as well as the performance, of the Excel33 3. It features reduced overlays in the forefoot for improved flexibility, along with a redesigned heel counter that, in a way, looks similar to the one seen on the Nike Lunarglide 5.

For cushioning and impact protection, you can still expect Gel units in the heel and forefoot. The shoe will also carry a dual-density FluidRide midsole for support and comfort underfoot.

No official release date has been set for the Asics Gel-Excel33 3 just yet. Though we are expecting a February 2014 release of the shoe.
