Bryan Brothers Upset

The Bryan Brothers’ attempt to become just the second men’s doubles team ever to complete a calendar year Grand Slam fell short on Thursday, as the American duo was upset by Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek in the US Open semifinals.

The greatest men’s doubles team to ever play the game, the Bryans have an unprecedented 15 major titles between them, including three from earlier this years. But they’ll have to wait until next year to go for that elusive Grand Slam after letting the match slip away in the second and third sets against the veteran international team in Paes and Stepanek. The 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss marks the end of a 28-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments—a streak that started back at Wimbledon 2012.

In other doubles news, sisters Serena and Venus Williams won their semifinal showdown against the No. 1 ranked women’s team in Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, putting them just two matches away from their 14th Grand Slam title as a team.
