As if the Carolina Panthers don't have enough to worry about already, things may have just gotten a whole lot worse.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Cam Newton was involved in a car accident in uptown Charlotte today, and was taken off in a stretcher. Details are lacking at this time, but we know it was a two car accident that caused Cam Newton's Dodge truck to flip over on a bridge right near the Bank of America stadium. The Panthers had an off day today, so it's unclear if Cam was going to the facility or just happened to be in the downtown area.

Cam was taken off on a stretcher and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Keep it locked to Sneaker Report as we will update as news comes in.

UPDATE #2:

Panthers fan can remain hopeful about Cam Newton's diagnosis considering this was the same injury sustained by Tony Romo which left him sidelined for just one game. With the Panthers making a push still in the hunt for the NFC South, Cam could make a comeback this season, but don't expect him to be rushed back into action.
