The classic white/fairway green colorway was quickly swiped from stores and became commonplace at events like New York Fashion Week. Now, one of the most iconic tennis shoes of all time is getting a performance makeover, but it's not the tennis upgrade you might be expecting.
The adidas Stan Smith Vulc mixes time-tested design with durable upgrades catered to skating. From the jump, the most noticeable change is the swapping of the original Stan Smith's groundbreaking leather upper for a more durable thick suede construction. A molded sockliner has been added on top of the molded EVA midsole for further protection during rough landings or bail outs. This is a feature which is only found on the Stan Smith Vulc version, not the cup sole variation.
Of course, the real change here is in the name, and it's the vulcanized rubber outsole. The vulc sole is a mainstay in the skateboarding world and is favored for its light weight and low profile which allows for high levels of board control. On the adidas Stan Smith Vulc, it's been enhanced with a vector traction pattern for even more board grip.
The adidas Stan Smith Vulc launch is also accompanied by a hilarious ad campaign featuring legendary skater Mark Gonzales playing the role of Stan himself.
