KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is DC Shoes Unilite cushioning. This versatile cushioning system is used in many of the brand's skateboarding sneakers, as well as their recently launched training collection. Thanks to its durable makeup, DC Shoes Unilite is able to function both as a midsole and outsole. DC Shoes Unilite is featured in the Mike Mo, which was chosen as one of The 10 Best Skate Shoes of 2013.

What is it? DC Shoes Unilite is a midsole/outsole makeup composed of thermoplastic polyurethane. The lightweight, sturdy construction helps to support skaters during tough landings and has been modified in the DC Shoes Unilite trainer line to offer a better range of motion with integrated "flex stems."

How does it work? DC Shoes Unilite offers shock absorption through its injection-molded PU composition, and is able to move more freely than its solid rubber counterparts thanks to flex stems, which break up the outsole's striking points into individual pods.

Notable products: DC Shoes Mike Mo, DC Shoes Rob Dyrdek Factory High, DC Shoes Unilite Trainer

Bottom line: Whether you're looking to kill it on the board or in the gym, DC Shoes Unilite is a lightweight and flexible cushioning option for both activities.
