KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is Saucony PowerGrid cushioning. Used in the vast majority of Saucony's performance running sneakers, this technology is available in models suited for everything from pronation control to winter adventures. Saucony PowerGrid is an updated form of the brand's Grid technology, which was originally introduced in 1991. Building off of what made their '90s models such a success, PowerGrid cushioning reinvents the classic tech to be even lighter and more efficient.

What is it? Saucony PowerGrid cushioning matches the brand's classic Grid cushioning (composed of Hytrel filaments) with PowerFoam. PowerFoam is an injected molded compound that is lighter and more responsive than the SSL-EVA foam used in ProGrid technology. The result is a package that is 15% lighter and 30% more durable than standard EVA makeups.

How does it work? Functionally, Saucony PowerGrid works much like ProGrid technology, yet is even lighter and more responsive. During footstrike, Saucony PowerGrid helps to center the foot and safely and evenly distribute impact, resulting in an extremely responsive feel

Notable products: Saucony Hurricane 15, Saucony Ride 6, Saucony Stabil CS3, Saucony Guide 7, Saucony Xodus 4.0 GTX

Bottom line: Saucony Grid technology has been able to withstand the test of time thanks to constant tweaks and updates like Saucony PowerGrid, which is the most advanced version of Grid yet.
