KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is Sympatex Moisture-Tech 360°. The innovative insole design utilizes the brand's waterproof Moisture-Tech lining laminate to create a dry, breathable microclimate. The technology will officially debut at the OutDoor Trade Fair 2013 from July 11-14 in Germany.
What is it? Moisture-Tech 360° is a a unique sweat-wicking setup which keeps feet dry in all weather conditions. By combining Sympatex's waterproof Moisture-Tech lining with a 360° insole, Moisture-Tech 360° helps to push moisture away in some of the foot's highest-perspiration areas.
How it works: It may sound strange at first, but Moisture-Tech 360° works by briefly storing moisture from the foot and sock in an interlining. From there, as the foot progresses through its natural roll, a ventilation and pumping effect takes place, pushing moisture vapor from a channel structure to the upper and finally out of the sneaker. This makes for a constant flow of moisture removal, whereas standard insoles normally do not push perspiration away from the foot.
Notable products: None yet, showing at the OutDoor Trade Fair 2013 from July 11-14 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Bottom line: This fast-drying moisture-wicking setup literally evaporates perspiration throughout the entire shoe. While it remains to be seen if any major brands pick up the technology, Moisture-Tech 360° looks promising.
