And so it begins. What the entire golf world has been anticipating for the past few months has official begun to unravel as World No. 1 ranked golfer Rory McIlroy cut ties with his first-ever corporate sponsor, Dubai-based hotel company Jumeirah Group. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with our Rory McIlroy-to-Nike coverage, this means that the 23-year-old Northern Irishman is one step closer to officially replacing (or at least joining) Tiger Woods as the face of Nike Golf.

"Jumeirah became my first corporate sponsor when I turned professional back in 2007 and I would like to thank everyone at the company for their support in helping me become the player I am today," McIlroy said in a news release.

Nike Golf has been churning at full speed as of lately, both in new personnel and new gear. In the last few weeks, the brand has added the likes of Nick Watney and Kyle Stanley to its ever-expanding roster. Moving forward, Nike will prepare to launch some high-tech clubs that may change the way golf is played. Things are coming together for Nike Golf to say the least. Golf fans are in for an exciting year.
