Mexico’s dreams of making it to Brazil next summer are one step closer to becoming a reality, as El Tri put on a dominating performance in the first leg of its FIFA World Cup Qualifying showdown against New Zealand.

In what was arguably the most convincing win by the Mexican men’s national squad in quite some time, a high octane scoring attack that began with a Paul Aguilar strike at the 32’ mark ended as a lopsided 5-1 victory over the All Whites.

With the latest win, Mexico is now just one game away from punching their ticket to Brazil. The second and final leg of the qualifying series is a week from today on November 20th. Despite Mexico’s huge lead on aggregate going into the next round, the team will have to get it done one more time before fans can breathe a sign of relief. There’s a lot on the line for Mexican faithful, not to mention sponsors like adidas, who have invested in the team on various levels. The team sure looked good today in their new "Tricolor" kits from the Three Stripes.
