When Nike first debuted the Mercurial Superfly, it was an immediate game changer. Through the use of a lightweight upper that mimics a second skin, the Superfly gave players better control and feel and brought them closer to the ball. Real Madrid are set to play Barcelona this weekend, and Nike is hooking up Cristiano Ronaldo with the latest Mercurial Superfly silhouette.
The Mercurial Superfly CR7 is the latest iteration of NikeSkin technology, and features a dynamic fit collar to to offer a locked down feel for players like Ronaldo. Built with speed at the forefront, the Superfly CR7 brings players even closer to the ball through it's micro-textured Flyknit upper, and a carbon fiber outsole plate to provide speed in all directions. The boots come in both a high-top and low cut version that will debut in an all-black colorway to start with white speckled accents throughout the upper that make the boots shimmer and shine.
“We knew we wanted to create this shimmering effect on-pitch, and do something that would really stand out in the sun or under lights, but it took us many iterations to get it just right,” said Blau. “The idea was inspired by Cristiano,” added Blau. “His technical ability makes him the best attacking player in the game, and the way he shows up in big matches and really shines, is what makes him the best there is.”
The Mercurial Superfly CR7 and Vapor X will be available for purchase through the Nike Futbol app beginning October 23, and will be available at the Nike Store on October 24.
