What do you get when you combine a Chinese finger trap with Nike Free technology? The Free Trainer 5.0, one of the most versatile training shoes around.

For the latest addition to the Nike Free footwear collection, Nike designers drew inspiration from the unlikeliest of places, the classic Chinese finger trap device. Not only does the design of the shoe mimic the device, but the functionality of the finger trap has been incorporated in the Free Trainer 5.0 as well.

Like the toy itself, the 5.0 features an upper that is made up of intertwined bands that are soft and flexible when the foot is at rest. But as soon as you begin moving forward, the bands constrict and tighten around the foot for incredible support.

The shoe is designed to give athletes a barefoot-like feel but with some much-needed cushioning via a Nike Free outsole. Its sole consists of aggressive rubber nodes that make it flexible and allow use on multiple surfaces.

The Free Trainer 5.0 will be available globally starting March 28, 2013.
