Knitted sneakers are all the buzz this summer.

Earlier this year, Nike gave us the revolutionary Flyknit technology, which was incorporated into its Flyknit Race and Flyknit HTM collection. Today, the brand introduced the shared technology incorporated into a distance track spike. The ultra-light spike (weighing just 3.90 ounces) is a high performing shoe that is also environmentally sustainable. The shoe features a lightweight woven upper that allows for exceptional breathability, all the while reducing waste during the manufacturing process by leaving out multiple layers of material used for normal footwear.

The cleat features a Pebax plate with four removable pins built in for maximum speed and support, while a sharkskin heel pad has been put in place to help improve traction and grip. All of this with a Flyknit upper sounds like one speedy cleat.

You'll spot this spike on American distance runner Dathan Ritzenheim for the 10,000m race on Saturday, but it sounds like it won’t be available for us non-Olympians anytime soon.
