The Nike Air Foamposite One is a perfect example of how an unconventional design can succeed in the sneaker business.

Inspired by a molded EVA foam sunglass case, the technological advancements of the Air Fomposite One were truly unprecedented. The designers at Nike, along with the Uniting the Advanced group, took the idea of the fluid, lightweight structure of the sunglass case and successfully incorporated it into a seamless basketball shoe that conformed around the foot with great ease.

But who in their right mind would wear a shoe that looked like a block of foam? None other than Penny Hardaway. From the moment Penny saw the Foamposite One, he was convinced that was his next shoe- and indeed it was. Given his aggressive and athletic style of play, and the exceptional performance attributes of the shoe, this was a match made in heaven.
