Today Nike takes an in-depth look at the Air Max2 CB as part of their "20 Designs That Changed the Game" series.

There was nothing soft about Charles Barkley's game, and his first signature shoe reflected that. Sir Charles first wore the Air Force 180 Lows as a member of the fabled Dream Team, and, soon enough, was due for his own line of kicks. So, in 1994 Tinker Hatfield and his cohorts at Nike built a shoe that provided premium support and cushioning for Barkley's office—the low block.

The Air Max2 CBs featured elastic bands on the mid-foot (complete with metal mesh to lock them in) to act as a "straitjacket" in order to keep the foot secure during physical play. The laces were held in place with molded locks for easy adjustment and the sole featured teeth for lateral support. Like the tough athlete they were made for, these bad boys were virtually indestructible.
