Halfway through 2013, and we’ve already witnessed a series of innovative, high performance running shoes—including the Energy Boost and CrazyQuick—released from adidas, but perhaps the best is yet to come. Starting August 1st, the Three Stripes will launch its latest running creation, the SpringBlade.

As we previewed earlier in the year, the adidas SpringBlade is the first running shoe to feature individually tuned blades designed for maximum energy return, thus helping propel runners forward. Unlike anything the running world has previously seen, the SpringBlade replaces the foam midsole seen on standard running shoes, with a series of angled bladed made out of high-grade polymer. As the name of the shoe suggests, the blades act as springs to produce a more efficient toe-off. At the end of each blade is a rubber node for traction.

The SpringBlade will retail for $180.
