For 2014, Saucony will update its running footwear lineup from top to bottom, and included in the mix is the next installment of the Peregrine trail running series—a house favorite here at Sneaker Report.

With updates both inside and out, the Peregrine 4.0 is expected to turn heads even more so than its predecessor, the 3.0—a shoe that has consistently been ranked as one of the best trail runners on the market. Along with a redesigned upper for enhanced looks and support, the 4.0 comes loaded with an updated rock plate made from nylon fibers for low weight and max protection against debris.

As expected, in the Peregrine 4.0, Saucony will continue the trend of replacing its ProGrid midsole unit with a more supple PowerGrid version for more cushioning and improved shock retention on uneven terrain. For better grip, the shoe’s outsole has also been reconfigured with more aggressive multi-directional lugs.

The Peregrine 4.0 is scheduled for a January 2014 release. The price is expected to be at the same $110 mark.
