In today’s The Shoes That Won Last Night wrap-up , the cleats were found on the diamond and pitch, while the quarterfinals of the China Open featured some of the best playing it out in hard court action.

The Detroit Tigers took a 1-0 lead over the Oakland Athletics on the back of a stellar night from pitcher Max Scherzer. Laced in the Nike Air MVP Pro Metal, Scherzer was up to his usual ways as he struck out 11 batters over a 7 inning period. Elsewhere, in St. Louis, the Pirates evened up their series at 1-1 with a 7-1 blowout of the Cardinals.

In the China Open quarterfinals, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Richard Gasquet, and Tomas Berdych all advanced to the semis, which are currently underway. Although it’s not a Grand Slam event, the China Open is an important tournament nonetheless, and all four men will be looking to take the title.
