Algeria put up an admirable fight, but Germany rallied to a 2-1 win yesterday to advance to the World Cup quarterfinals. After going scoreless through regulation, the Germans finally got on the board at 92' with a lucky goal from Andre Schurrle, and they increased their lead at 120' with a second goal from Mesut Ozil. But somehow, someway, Algeria still had some fight left, and substitute Abdelmoumene Djabou snuck one in to make it 1-2. Unfortunately, it was too late to stage a comeback, and Germany advanced to their 16th straight quarterfinals, where they'll meet France, who were also victorious yesterday.

Much like the Germany-Algeria showdown, France and Nigeria were tied at zero through much of regulation before a goal from Paul Pogba at 79'. In stoppage time, Nigeria's Joseph Yaba scored an embarrassing own goal to increase France's lead to 2-0 and put an end to the Super Eagles' World Cup hopes. France will face Germany in the quarterfinals this Friday at 12 noon.
