After a rousing month of football, the 2014 FIFA World Cup came to a close yesterday as Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 with a goal in extra time. It was a fitting end to a cup that brought plenty of surprises, record-setting goals, and down to the wire finishes. For Germany, it marks the end of a triumphant run and their fourth World Cup title win, the first since their 1990 win over Argentina in the finals. The familiar foes went scoreless through 90 minutes, and it wasn't until the 113' mark that Germany's Andre Schurrle made a beautiful cross to Mario Goetze, who added the exclamation point with a graceful goal. Unfortunately for Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, and the rest of the Argentina squad, their nearly three-decade title drought continues after yesterday's decisive loss.

Find out which boots made the difference as we wrap up our 2014 World Cup coverage after the break.
