Sole Collector Details the UA Gridiron Trainer in Interview with Ross Klein and Dave Dombrow

Last week, we provided you with an early look at the Under Armour Gridiron Trainer, and today the team over at Sole Collector has taken things a step further with a detailed breakdown of the Foot Locker-exclusive model straight from the source.

Speaking with Ross Klein, the lead designer of the UA Gridiron Trainer, and Dave Dombrow, UA Footwear’s creative director, Sole Collector’s interview provides insight on the concepts, player involvement, and technologies behind the brand’s latest football trainer.

“We feel like we should own Training. We are the company that started in football, and there isn’t another company that can come with that same DNA that we have. But that’s only part of the equation. We’re looking at training in general, and we’re looking at the future athlete as well. That’s where Julio Jones and Arian Foster come into play,” said Dombrow.

Meanwhile, Klein broke down some of the tech involved in the trainer: “For this type of shoe, you have people that are very strong but very fast. Your forefoot and your heel is a big component that takes upon securing that lateral area and the tongue. It’s a unibody piece in through the forefoot, and you’re going to see the eyestay actually connected into the upper as well. It’s just one piece, and there’s no added foams, lining or extra pieces there. There’s also a toe cap reinforcement here for abrasion.”

Head on over to Sole Collector to read the interview in its entirety and pick up the Gridiron Trainer today from Foot Locker for $100.
