GPS watch and heart rate monitor manufacturer Soleus looks to be making big moves this year, as the brand has announced the signing of three world-class American runners in Kara Goucher, Nick Symmonds and Alysia Montaño.
All three runners were at one point a part of Team Nike, however, over the past year all three have jumped ship in lieu of a wider variety of sponsors for footwear, apparel and accessories.
"I've had a lot more freedom in terms of sponsorships just by being away from the 'Big Dog,'" Montaño told Runner's World Newswire.
"We’re not a pawn in the game, and I think that was the trend beforehand," Montaño went on to say. "It's definitely a cyclical profession that we're in. I think on both sides, it's important to have a partnership [between the athlete and the brand] and to have more opportunities to reach the public.”
Shots fired.
