SPOTTED: Djokovic Wins the “Battle of the Barricades” at the 2013 Australian Open

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are currently two of the best tennis players in the world (hence their No. 1 and No. 3 world ranking respectively). So what’s been the key to success for the two heavy hitters? Well, aside from their god-given talents, and the hard work they’ve put in to become the best, it could just be the shoes.

When Djokovic and Murray cemented their places in this morning’s 2013 Australian Open Final, perhaps no one was more excited about the high-voltage showdown than adidas—after all, both Novak and Andy wear adidas Barricade tennis sneakers.  You could just write this off as a coincidence, but, if you ask us, there’s more to it than that.

Both players have a similar playing style—one that is based on speed, agility, quickness, and durability. Both have been known to excel in long, intense match settings. Thus, both Novak and Andy have seemingly come to a general consensus that the shoes that best fit their dominating style of play are the Barricades.

Murray’s Barricade’s may have gotten the better of Djokovic at last year’s U.S. Open, but this time around, it was Novak who came out on top, winning his third consecutive Australian Open title. Despite the lost, Murray looks to be in good form for 2013. There’s a pretty good chance he and Djokovic will meet again as the season progresses.
