No. 10 - You’ve Got (entirely too much) Music in You

Where They Went Wrong: While we have an appreciation for rhythmic gymnastics and other music/athletic fusions, your weightlifting routine probably shouldn’t have the same synergy between exercise and art. While fist pumping is often a pastime of the muscle bound bro, he should not be incorporating the gesture into his weightlifting routine.

What They Did Well: The dude can keep a beat, and, according to the fine young man who posted the video, he elected to keep that beat at 4am, when no one else besides the gym staff would see him. If you've got some freaky fitness eccentricity, keep it at home or late night as to distract those of us with a more ... traditional workout technique.

Our Advice: Let the music guide you, but not posses you like a demon. Though good tunes can be a motivation to finish a workout, apparently your jams can send your workout off the rails.

No. 9 - The Inventor

Where They Went Wrong: Odds are, if you've never seen someone do a workout in the gym before, it is with good reason. This is doubly true if the workout you are attempting defies the laws of physics. Don't get cute.

What They Did Well: In the face of failure, our hero took a beating with a smile, which is more than you can say for most people. Though it might have been to distract the camera man from the tears welling up in his eyes, he still gets props for laughing off a kettle bell to the nose.

Our Advice: There are more than enough actual personal trainers dispensing actual workout advice for free. Don't try and freestyle your own workout because you are looking swole in your Under Armour. Until you get your degree in exercise science, you should just focus on the fundamentals.

No. 8 - The Multi-Tasker

Where They Went Wrong: Multi-tasking might be appropriate on your morning commute or right before crunch time on the job, but not at the gym. I doubt you are going to get full range of motion if you are trying to get your girl to send you suggestive pictures while you lift.

What They Did Well: This tank top is so close to not being a shirt. That is an accomplishment. Truly, we are impressed.

Our Advice: Hold off on talking to your girl about getting pumped until said getting pumped has taken place. Even if this dude is putting on a show, we are sure you have seen this variety of douche in your local gym. Keep the phones in your pockets, gentlemen; your girl doesn't want to hear you talk about your workout anyway.

No. 7 - Momma Knows Best

Where They Went Wrong: Having your mom as a spotter is kind of like taking you sister to prom; this is the height of emasculating embarrassment.

What they Did Well: At this point, the alternative was a crippling injury, so all things considered, he made the best of a bad situation. Also, nice tunes bro.

Our Advice: Go to the gym. It is appealing to set up a bench in the garage or the basement to save time, but saving time means cutting corners. Though dude looks lame as Hell, imagine what would have happened if mom wasn’t home.

No. 6 - Treading the Line

Where They Went Wrong: Of all the “Treadmill Fails” in this video, the majority involve someone trying to begin running on an already moving treadmill. One of them features a guy bicycling on a treadmill, which we also don’t recommend.

What they Did Well: The stars of this video made it into a compilation that earned over one million hits. As an internet publication, we can tell you, going viral is difficult, and these folks are bonafide Web 2.0 stars.

Our Advice: Begin running as the treadmill begins moving. If you aren’t going to do that, don’t let anyone film you.

No. 5 - Something Fishy

Where They Went Wrong: You should do your best to be aware of your surroundings when working out, even in your own bedroom.

What They Did Well: The instinctual whining for his mother was handled like a real champ. That high pitched squeal is like no other. This dude knows who can make it all better. It takes a real man to know when you need Mommy's help.

Our Advice: Just like having pets, working out is a privledge, not a right. If you can’t do it without bringing harm to another of Mother Earth’s creatures, then maybe you just aren’t ready to get buff.

No. 4 - The Knockout

Where They Went Wrong: Not only did this guy lift too much weight, but we are pretty sure that there are like sixty workouts you can do on a Total Gym that don’t result in being knocked unconscious

What They Did Well: Props for the stylish bandana.

Our Advice: Form is key. Lifting too much weight is an easy mistake to make and it is easily compounded by poor form.

No. 3 - Row, Row, Row Your … Something

Where They Went Wrong: Sometimes not lifting enough weight can have effects just as detrimental as lifting too much. Both can result in a bad workout and potential injury.

What They Did Well: At the same time, he does seem to be preparing for something we deeply approve of …

Our Advice: Whether your practicing for your crew team's tournament or … whatever it is we suspect this dude is practicing for, put enough weight on to slow you down bit. If there is no resistance, there is no workout, weightlifting Padawan.

No. 2 - Ill-Equipped

Where They Went Wrong: You are only as good as your tools. Putting your bunk bed ladder over your door for use as a pull-up bar … probably not going to turn out well.

What They Did Well: You've got to give the kid points for being inventive.

Our Advice: There is just so much advice to give. Obviously, his gear is not optimal, and his equipment is certainly not recommended. But, the thing that really sticks out to us is his caption, “First and last time working out.” Come on bro, this is one of those “Little Engine that Could” situations. We don’t think you can, but you should believe in yourself even if no one else does.

No. 1 - Marcus the Cable Guy

Where They Went Wrong: These boys are doing the classic scrawny thirteen year-old move here: mistaking lifting too much weight for getting big.

What They Did Well: Marcus is wearing weightlifting gloves … so that’s something

Our Advice: Everybody starts somewhere. You aren’t going to beef up and seduce the captain of the cheerleading squad over night. It might take you until the 10 year reunion to get the physique you want, but, trust us, that cheerleader isn’t going anywhere. She'll probably be ready for her second marriage by then anyway.
