Another day, another win for the world of social media as the NBA just confirmed they will add their @NBA Twitter handle to the official game ball for the upcoming season.

In an effort to push the game, the @NBA handle will be added in sight under the words "official game ball", making them the first league to integrate social media directly into the hands of players. This isn't overly surprising as the NBA is looking to further push the league across the world, and there's no real easier or cheaper way to do so then social media. The league is looking to take advantage of the younger generation who rely on the social media platform on a daily basis.

"We have a young, tech-savvy fan base," Melissa Rosenthal Brenner, the league's senior vice president for digital media, said. "This acknowledges our commitment to being part of the conversation."

This is just another move by new commissioner Adam Silver to expand the popularity of the league, and it'll be interesting to see if other leagues such as the NFL follow suit. Just last year, the NBA experimented with nicknames on jerseys for the first time ever, and this could just be the next marketing ploy from the league to stir up the conversation and get people excited for the upcoming season. The ball will debut during the NBA preseason and will be available to purchase a few months later.
