Excitement levels dramatically increase when you see the groups and actually have real visual evidence that games will actually take place in Brazil. We are only 6 months away from Brazil vs Croatia! As always, opinions are circulating as to which group is the “group of death” and which present easier rides for certain countries. Here, we explore some of the top fixtures to watch up for across all of the group stage games and which players will form the key match-ups in those games.

If the second most intriguing match up at the World Cup group stage is a match involving the USA, then something is wrong. As much as I love the USMNT, this post misses the mark a bit…still, some very great match-ups but the order is a bit…off…

Any match involving the USA should not be a top 10 clash. We only care about England vs Italy, Spain vs Holland and Portugal vs Germany, outside of any national team preferences. Oh yes personally any Belgian and Ghanaian matches will be interesting. Fuck the US.

LMFAO USA at 2, you suck at futbol! hahahahahaha

Go Chile! they fuck us up but its cool tho. i see fifa fixing groups

Andres Iniesta and Wesley Sneijder never played together.

The fuck are player match ups?? Football doesn’t work like that.

Actually it does. Sometimes coaches apply the man to man cover, wich means one player must follow and stop one player of the other team the entire game. It usually works when there’s some star on the opposite team and you need to cover him all the time. Sometimes news sites or something use this player match ups too to compare two sets of players that are similar. They usually do that when Barcelona and Real Madrid play, comparing Ronaldo and Messi all the time.

I understand it as tactics, when a centre back or full back needs to contain an attacker. Half of the player match up’s up there are players who will hardly come into contact with each other through out the match such as Iniesta and Sneijder or Modric and Neymar. It’s a very American style to sport write up’s, either frame it as the two potential match winners or defensive versus offensive players. I get your point though.Still no one cares about the US football team even Americans don’t.

did you ever heard about “El Maracanazo” ? classic brazil final game where uruguay came as an underdog and boss brazil up in their own stadium? yeah, history stupid fucks, thats the most exciting match to watch, not no USA or netherlands, fuck is you on fool?

Sometimes the best matches have nothing to do with the play during the game. Spain vs. Netherlands is a rematch of the 2010 World Cup Final, USA’s coach is German and played for Germany, USA and Portugal haven’t had any recent matches together or maybe never played (I got to look into that), and Brazil vs. Croatia is the first game of the World Cup. All of them have nothing to do with the gam itself but the story leading up to the game.
