Great Britain’s Mo Farah is no stranger to the long distance run as he is the double Olympic and World champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter run. This Sunday, his distance will be put to the test. He will be running the famous Half Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race. Farah will be competing against the Ethiopian superstars in Kenenisa Bekele and Haile Gebrselassie in the point-to-point race which reaches from Newcastle to South Shields. Together, the three have won all the 10,000 meter Olympic gold medals since 1996 in Atlanta. However, this will be the first time that the will all compete together in one race.

The two Ethiopians look to be fierce competition for Farah. Bekele holds the World Records at the 5000m and 10,000m, which he took from Gebrselassie. Bekele, however, lacks experience in the Half Marathon. “I am looking forward to my Half Marathon debut. It’s not going to be easy for me as the others have more experience over the distance and yes, I am the newcomer just starting to pursue a serious road running career,” commented Bekele.

Farah is ready. “I have experience on the roads but this will be only my third half marathon race. I hope to make it a third win in the North East,” said Farah. Mo will most likely take this competition head on in a pair of Nike Flats. It will be interesting to see if he will bring out something new on his quest for a third victory.
