The 2014 Winter Olympics start in just two short weeks and Under Armour is pulling out all the stops to help the United States bring home the gold.
After two years of research and development, Under Armour unveiled what they are calling “the fastest speed skating suit in the world.” Made specifically for the United States team, the Mach-39 US Speedskating Skin, was engineered for superior aerodynamic performance on the ice. Under Armour’s Innovation Team worked closely with top aerospace and development technology company Lockheed Martin, to create the most aerodynamic suit of all time.
The suit incorporates some of the most innovative technologies such as flow molding, to disrupt airflow around the athlete’s body, and the Soflex Zipper that circumvents the body, allowing for better comfort and aerodynamics. Under Armour also integrated ArmourVent for extra breathability and comfort, as well as their patented HeatGear technology to keep sweat from building up and weighing down the skin. Another point of innovation was the inclusion of ArmourGlide, which is utilized in the thigh area and reduces the coefficient of friction by 65%. The suit’s design was inspired by the Americana hot rod culture, and integrated pin striping into the design to strategically reduce drag.
Keep and eye out for more innovation from Under Armour, and check out the new suits in action when the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off February 7.
