Call it an upset if you'd like, but there's no denying the fact that Stanislas Wawrinka's Australian Open title win was hard earned. Earlier this morning, the 8th-seeded Wawrinka defeated No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. After defeating Djokovic earlier in the Open, Wawrinka made history by becoming the first player since 1993 to defeat the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in a Grand Slam tournament. In the midst of the action, Nadal suffered a back injury, so aside from the celebration we wish Rafael a quick and speedy recovery!
Meanwhile, there was plenty of hoops action to go around between the NBA and NCAA Men's Top 25 match-ups. In Toronto, the Clippers powered to a 126-118 win over the Raptors after a huge night from Jamal Crawford. Despite the loss, Toronto's Terrence Ross lead the night in scoring with 51 points. Kevin Durant powered OKC to a win over Philadelphia with a triple-double, and Serge Ibaka also turned in a great game with a double-double.
On the college hardwood, the No. 21 Michigan Wolverines continued their red-hot streak with a 80-75 win over No. 3 Michigan State. The Wolverines are now 7-0 in Big Ten action while the Spartans drop to 7-1. No. 4 Villanova and No. 8 Kansas were also in action, so be sure to hit the slides to catch what you missed.
