The World Series got off to a rough start. The Boston Red Sox ran away in a laugher as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 in relatively easy fashion. Starter Jon Lester pitched a very effective 7.2 innings, and gave up just 5 hits. David Ortiz had a big home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Red Sox scored at will on Wednesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo also put up a great performance as he scored both goals in Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Juventus. There were plenty of NBA games on the Wednesday night schedule. Player: Gerald Wallace
Game: Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets

The Boston Celtics are expected to struggle this season after essentially breaking up the core of the roster and starting the rebuilding process. Gerald Wallace was acquired by the Celtics in the trade with the Nets that brought Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn. Wallace should be a solid veteran influence for a young developing Celtics squad. In the Celtics' 101-97 victory over the Nets, Wallace had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the victory proving that his all-around game can help the Celtics improve.

Milwaukee has been lambasted in NBA season previews for where their position in the NBA. The team refuses to bottom out and tank, but they also don't look like an elite team this season. They might be able to make the playoffs with the help of O.J. Mayo. Mayo had a strong showing last night against the New York Knicks. The Bucks won 105-95 thanks to Mayo's 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Mayo might have his true breakout season this year. (We're still waiting!)

Some critics doubt the ability of the Miami Heat to repeat for this season. One of the main questions is the health of Dwyane Wade.
