Debating over who’s the single most underrated player in the NBA is often fun, but truly hard to measure. However, if someone asked us to assemble an NBA All-Underrated Team, well, we could make that happen. The Atlanta Hawks Al Horford would get a first-team selection for sure, too. Look at his credentials: 2x NBA All-Star, All NBA Third-Team, 2x NCAA Champion, Dominican National Team member. Yet, he’s seldom mentioned when it comes to the leagues best forwards. Blame it on the Hawks perennial position in playoff purgatory, but the Dominican Republic native always seems like an underdog.
That is until he goes off like he did last night against the Detroit Pistons, dropping a whopping 23 points and 22 rebounds in the Hawks 114-103 road win. Horford, wearing the Nike Hyperdunk 2012, played the post perfectly. The FlyWire upper goes great with his game, because even though he can bang down-low, which the Lunarlon midsole helps absorb, Horford is more a face-up, streamline four and moves quicker than the typical forward. And last night, he 22 examples to back up that claim.
