Recently, we made a list of the 10 best performances in the Hyperdunk 2012. If Paul George put up a statline of 24 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assist like he did last night a month ago, he would have easily cracked the top five.
The Knicks were short Carmelo Anthony because of Cheerio-gate and Danny Granger’s been sidelined for Indiana, setting the stage for J.R. Smith and George to take over on offensive for their respective teams. Smith had 25 points (and dipped on his defender for this top play), but the young Pacer is starting to show what all the hype was about when he was drafted.
We just might be witnessing the emergence of a star. Playing in the Hyperdunks gave George total control over his responsiveness and foot speed, allowing him to utilize his timing and come up with plays like this. He probably wont make the all-star team this year (although he has a fighters chance), but it does look like he’s developed enough to reach a new level.
