Odell Beckham Jr. is so hot right now. After dining with LeBron James when the Cavs were in town to sitting courtside at Knicks games, the New York Giants rookie sensation's star seems to rise with every passing week. This past week, though, Beckham may have got his greatest celebrity endorsement yet: a text message correspondence with Michael Jordan.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Beckham and His Airness have been contacting each other via text, with the rookie wide receiver picking MJ's mind on all things sports. Given Beckham's meteoric rise to fame and both he and Jordan's connections to Nike, we have to ask the question could he be the next great Jordan athlete? With fellow New York athlete Derek Jeter retiring this past season, Jordan Brand could use another star in the Big Apple. While they do have Carmelo Anthony, who just dropped his New York-inspired Melo M11 signature line, it seems like New Yorkers haven't taken to Melo the same way they have to Odell so far in the early going.
Of course it's still early and many factors could play out, like the possibility of a sophomore jinx or injuries, but Beckham seems destined to be the next great New York athlete. A marriage between him and Jordan Brand just seems to make sense. Of course, this all just speculation on our part, but we wouldn't bet against a union of OBJ and MJ sometime in the future, especially now that they are talking.
