Nike Issues “Red River Rivalry” Free Trainer 5.0s

Nike is commemorating the “Red River Rivalry” football match between university gridiron powers Oklahoma and Texas with an exclusive colorway. Because of the century-long match between the OU Sooners and the UT Longhorns, Nike is accenting the teams with gold-embossed embroidery and trimmings to add a bit of pizzazz, but that’s not the only thing that glitters.

Nike has made Oklahoma and Texas versions of the Nike Free Trainer 5.0, a shoe that features the woven Chinese finger trap upper and the Swoosh’s patented Free midsole/outsole. The Red River Rivalry versions that feature maroon/white for the Sooners and burnt orange/white for the Longhorns also come with gold swooshes (like the aforementioned uniform accents). They’re likely to be worn by the teams leading up to the game, and made available to you so that you can wear exactly what the university athletes are wearing.

Other than that, expect no performance differences between those and the other standard issue versions of the Free Trainer 5.0. Expect the same lockdown fit, the same support, and the same great flexibility, light weight, and freedom provided by the Free sole.
