We at Sneaker Report are tempted to LOVE this shoe before ever trying it on. The design uses so many over the top performance shoe elements (neon colorway, aggressive outsole, crazy layering and a chunky midsole) that it all kind of works. It's unapologetically a performance shoe. We dig that.
Luxury brands have embraced the trend as well, including chunkier training silhouettes into collections like it's 1999.
The Mafate Speed from Hoka One One is a trail shoe for the serious runner. Taking their maximalist point of view to new heights, the midsole sets runners 30mm off of the trail, which requires a somewhat experienced runner to handle the rocker profile and extra foam underfoot. Now we just need to compare them to the flatform kicks that are trending these days. Finally, an excuse besides Halloween to dress like a Spice Girl.
