Over 25,000 Runners Turn Out For the San Francisco Nike Women's Half Marathon

Making their way from Union Square through Golden Gate Park all the way to finish line at the Marina, over 25,000 women, as well as a few men, ran the streets of San Francisco this morning to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to find cures blood cancers and ensure access to treatments.

As part of the Nike Women's Marathon Race Series, the field brought together both the elite of the running world and newcomers to the sport. Headlining the field of runners were Olypmic medalists like Joan Benoit Samuelson and Shalane Flanagan, as well as former Paralympic runner Sarah Reinertsen. Joining the stars were 1,500 runners trained by Team in Training. So far, the Nike Womens's Marathon Race Series has raised more than $152 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Australia's Victoria Mitchell was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 1:19:49.To celebrate the San Francisco race, Nike released special editions of the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18, Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31, Nike Zoom Fit Agility NWM and the Nike Internationalist Mid NWM.
