For it's latest soccer cleat, Nike has looked towards the legendary 2002 Mercurial Vapor for inspiration.

The Mercurial Vapor was the shoe that Ronaldo wore for Brazil in the 2002 World Cup when the superstar striker netted eight goals. The '02 version of the Mercurial was Nike's first sub-200 gram soccer cleat and featured the company's first stitch-less upper.

The the 2014 Mercurial Vapor IX Fast Forward ’02 Edition takes Ronaldo's '02 model and combines it with modern materials and innovations, like Nike's All Conditions Control technology, to celebrate the boots legacy of speed.

A sock liner featuring key moments in the Mercurial's history and a heel logo mark identifying the original year of inspiration are some of the finer details included on the new cleat.

The Mercurial Vapor IX Fast Forward ’02 Edition is available now at nike.com.
