Gear Watch: What to Look For on Day One of the U.S. Open

It's finally here. After weeks of anticipation, speculation and prognostication, the U.S. Open kicks off today in Flushing with a whole slate of superstar packed action on the docket. As with all major tournaments, Sneaker Report has your gear news covered from head-to-toe.

Highlighting the daytime action is fifth-seeded Milos Raonic and his New Balance MC 996 D shoes. The Canadian star will take on Japan's Taro Daniel, hoping to use his world famous 150 MPH serve as an intimidation tool against his unseeded opponent. Roanic recently met up with Complex News to discuss the secrets behind his rocket-fueled serve.

On the women's side of things, tenth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki is set to take on Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova on the Grandstadn court. Wozniacki will don an outfit tailored by adidas, highlighted by Stella Barricade 8 shoes. After taking the Ice Bucket challenge earlier this month, Wozniacki is poised to return to the U.S. Open final for the first time since 2009.

Highlighting the nighttime session of Day one, is two of the game's biggest titans in Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova. Nike has supplied Sharapova with special wardrobes for both the day and night sessions of the U.S. Open. Tonight she will take the court in the special nighttime edition of the the Nike Maria Dress when she squares off against Russia's Maria Kirilenko.

Rounding out the first day's action will be the men's No. 1 seed Djokovic. The odds-on favorite to win the tournament is set to face Argentina's Diego Schwartzman. The Uniqlo clad Djokovic will take to the court in his own adidas Barricade 7 "Novak" shoes for what is first step in capturing his second career U.S. Open title.
