Free TR 5

With the help of professional golfer Michelle Wie, Nike is launching a revamped version of the popular Free TR 5.

For the very first time, The Free TR 5 will feature hexagonal flex grooves in the Free-enabled sole. The new grooves will allow for the training sneaker to flex in multiple directions and enable the athlete's natural motion. New rubber pods have also been installed on key wear zones on the sole to provide enhanced traction and durability.  The shoe, which launches today on NikeiD, received design input from Wie who stressed the importance of having equipment that motivates you.

“When you train, there are some mornings when you don’t want to get out of bed and you don’t want to go to the gym,” Wie says. “But if there’s some piece of clothing or a shoe that you really get excited about, that motivates you to go to the gym. Every time I look at my NIKEiD shoe, I get pumped up to work out. It goes back to the philosophy that is so true: If you look good, you’ll feel good, which means you’ll play well.

For extra motivation, NikeiD is allowing you to add your own personalized message on the tongue, in addition to the usual customizable laces and midsoles. If you want to wait to purchase Wie's non-cusomtizable option rather than design your own, it will launch on January 1.
