adidas is Suing Under Armour Over Activity Monitoring Technology

Following last week's news that Under Armour has acquired MapMyFitness, according to reports adidas has sued Under Armour citing infringements on exercise tracking and fitness monitoring patents.

The complaint states that Under Armour has infringed on adidas' patents with products such as the Armour39 by using chest straps, watches and supporting software, and mobile products. All of this may seen out of left field, but according to adidas, the Under Armour director of research was once a senior engineering manager at adidas.

adidas revealed the details in a statement, "Informed by research, development and insights of elite athletes, our innovation defines and drives us, and it puts us ahead of competitors. Today, adidas is moving forward to protect diginal technologies core to our miCoach product, which includes patented performance-tracking technolog that provides athletes with first-rate training programs."
