As part of its Spring 2014 footwear collection, New Balance is set to roll out the next edition of its popular 890 neutral running shoe next year—just one of many high-profile updated models to look forward to from NB.

At first glance, the 890v4 looks like a complete redesign of its predecessor, the 890v3 (a shoe that has garnered high acclaim here at Sneaker Report). But the changes aren’t as dramatic—something that shouldn’t come as a surprise given the shoe’s popularity.

Leading the list up upgrades is a more substantial midsole unit for added cushioning, along with an extended crash pad for improved flexibility. Though, even with a bulkier profile, the 890v4 is expected to weigh in at 8.5 ounces (almost an entire ounce lighter than the previous model).

New Balance has also done away with the stitched upper seen on the previous version for a seamless one that offers greater comfort and a more natural fit. Runners with wide feet will be pleased to know that the shoe has a larger toe box that better caters to them.

Look for the New Balance 890v4 to drop in February 2014.
