New Balance has a serious update on tap for its Minimus Trail running shoe for Spring 2014—great news for off-road enthusiasts looking for maximum protection against the train in a minimal package.

In terms of design, the NB Minimus Trail Zero v2 is a complete departure from the original version of the shoe. The Zero v2 features a mesh upper with seamless suede overlays for a lightweight yet durable construction. Its outsole has also been revamped, as NB has added a more aggressive lug pattern designed to rip through the trail with ease. There are some carryover features from the previous version, including a zero drop platform that is the core of NB’s Minimus series. The shoe also comes with the same RevLite midsole featured in many of the brand’s marquee running shoes.

While the images shown above are of a sample version of the shoe, the final product is virtually identical, with the only difference being the branding on the heel counter (the final version reads “Zero v2”).

The Minimus Trail Zero v2 is scheduled to hit retailers in April 2014 with an expected retail value of $110.
