INTERVIEW: Jason Taylor Talks Sneakers, Jay-Z, and Life on the Water

1.

When you've spent the last 15 years dedicated to playing football at the highest level, life after the game may seem a little dull. This is not the case for recently retired NFL great Jason Taylor.

After dominating the gridiron for the past two decades, Taylor has adapted a more leisurely approach to life— one that includes boating with the family, lacing up a pair of Jordans for some hoops, and a new gig as a NFL analyst for ESPN. Through old school hard work and a relentless drive to be the best, Taylor cemented himself as one of the best defensive players to ever strap on a football helmet. Now, having retired for the NFL a year ago, JT is taking life in stride. These days, instead of causing havoc on quarterbacks, the eventual hall-of-famer spends much of his time with family, particularly on the water.

In anticipation of the first week of the NFL, and Jason's start as an ESPN analyst, Sneaker Report caught up with the athlete for some insight into his life beyond the field.

"If you're not trying to improve and get better everyday then you're losing ground, so I like Nike's approach. They've done a great job of staying out there in the front."

Speaking of Nike, what do you think about their new NFL gear?

Well, call me biased, but Nike has the best product out there. They've done a great job of kind of re-designing some of the uniforms. I'm still getting used to some of the looks and colors of some of the teams, but it's cool. When I first came into the league, it was a Nike league, as far as the uniforms were concerned, then they switched to Reebok. But a lot of guys are glad they're back to Nike, and I like the new uniforms and the new materials they're using. Nike's so innovative. The technology that goes in the materials, and the designs that they come up with are pretty cutting edge. So I'm obviously a Nike and Jordan fan. If you're not trying to improve and get better everyday then you're losing ground, so I like Nike's approach. They've done a great job of staying out there in the front.
